UK | ALDI’s Cracking Easter Sales as they are set to sell around 20 million hot cross buns and 8.6 million of its own-label chocolate eggs as the country’s fourth-largest supermarket prepares for its biggest and best Easter yet.
Hot cross buns and Easter eggs combined will see the retailer spend around £8 million with British suppliers in the run-up to Easter, while it will spend a further £4 million on fresh meat, fish and meat-free alternatives and approximately £34 million on British fruit and vegetables.
The UK’s cheapest supermarket* predicts that lamb sales will increase by 900% during Easter week versus the week before, while its British Prime Gammon Joint, sourced from its long-term supplier in North Yorkshire, is expected to be another big hit this Easter, with an estimated 36 tons to be sold.
Aldi also expects that sales of its Veuve Monsigny champagne will increase 40 percent during the week of Easter, while Prosecco DOC sales will soar to 150 percent above normal trading periods.
With Easter falling earlier this year, the supermarket said it expects more families than ever will tuck into a roast, as it prepares to sell more than three million British potatoes, 1.65 million carrots and 500,000 parsnips.
“Shoppers have started to think about Easter even earlier this year, with items from our Easter range flying off the shelves already,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK.
“Whether it’s our Specially Selected hot cross buns, the Easter staple of British lamb, or our award-winning British Wagyu Beef Tomahawk, there are more British-sourced delights than ever for Aldi shoppers to enjoy.
