New York has joined the list of states that allow pharmacists to dispense hormonal contraceptives without a prescription from a doctor.
States began granting contraception-prescribing authority to pharmacists in 2016, when both California and Oregon passed laws allowing the practice. The measures have gained steam since and have since expanded to 28 states and the District of Columbia, according to data from the Guttmacher Institute, which conducts research on reproductive health policy.

Sales of store brands increased $10.1 billion to a record $236.3 billion last year compared to 2022, according to PLMA’s just-released 2024 Private Label Report.
That represents a 4.7% rise in dollar sales in all outlets from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023, versus the same period the previous year, according to the report. Store brands bested national brands, which grew 3.4% in dollar sales.

Kroger and Albertsons both filed sharply worded comments this week asserting that the Federal Trade Commission defined the competitive retail and labor markets much too narrowly in its efforts to block the retailers’ planned mergers.
